Get Golf Ready Beginner-Tuesdays

Learn the fun and relaxing sport of golf.  This six week clinic will cover short game, long game, golf course etiquette and rules, with the goal of making you comfortable on the course.  Students should have their own clubs.

This class is for the golfer with some game experience whose goals are to improve their golf game on the course.

Hunter Safety

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Hunter Education Course is more than a “gun safety” class. This basic mandatory course consists of classroom and home instruction/study. Each course is taught by a trained certified volunteer instructor according to statewide standards. Students are provided with a course handbook, outdoor survival information, and additional handouts.  Home study is required. You must be on time and attend both classes.

Two classes: Wednesday, September 20, 6-9pm AND Saturday, September 30, 8:30am - 4:30pm. Both at Winthrop Middle School Cafeteria

 Craig Gerry is the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Safety Coordinator for Kennebec County-Hunter Safety, Ourdoor Safety Programs.

He has taught as a volunteer for 10 years plus for IFW before becoming a Regional Safety Coordinator. Craig holds a Registered Maine Guide License for hunting, fishing, and recreational.

Linda's Laptop Lab

Bring your laptop and ask your questions!   Topics will include Computer Basics, Internet Safety, Email, Google Drive, Facebook, and YouTube. Learn about and download some handy free tools. Speed up your computer, check for viruses, malware, spyware, and adware. Bring any questions you have abount your laptop's performance.

Mushrooms - Fun Into Fungi!

We’ll put the FUN in this class by going on walkabouts near Winthrop High School and then write up the days catch. We’ll look at slides, 2 great DVDs, spore print, and discuss toxins, edibles, hallucinogens and every major family of the 1800 known species of mushrooms in this area. You’ll need the AUDUBON GUIDE OF NORTH AMERCA by Lincoff, a notebook, paper bag or basket, walking shoes, and magnifier. If you’ve taken this class before and enjoyed it, take it again! Every season is different. Limit 6 students. REGISTER EARLY!

Pilates/Yoga

Qigong

Qigong (also spelled Ch’i Kung) is a powerful system of healing and energy medicine from China. It is the art and science of using breathing techniques, gentle movement, and meditation to cleanse, strengthen, and circulate the life energy (qi). Qigong practice leads to better health and vitality and a tranquil state of mind. Students perform at their own level.
