Hunter Safety

with Michael Foster

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Hunter Education Course is more than a “gun safety” class. The Home Study Course consists of about 9 hours of classroom instruction broken up into a 3 hour introduction followed by 2 nights of classroom instruction and activities. Students are required to complete a workbook or an online course to obtain a voucher, both of which complement the student manual. Students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely handle a firearm, participate in activities, bring in a survival kit with appropriate  contents and pass a 50 question test with a grade of at least 70%.  Home study is required. You must be on time and attend all three classes. You must be at least 10 years of age before you can take this class.

Three classes: Monday, April 1, Tuesday, April 9, and Thursday, April 11. All classes are 6-9pm and are at the Winthrop Middle School Cafeteria.

Michael Foster is the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Safety Coordinator for Kennebec County-Hunter Safety, Ourdoor Safety Programs.
