Come learn about the buildings on Main Street and the folks who lived there. This walking tour down Main Street will focus on the significant events that happened on Main Street over its 250th years. Many of the former occupants of the many diverse buildings on Main Street made important contributions to the welfare of the town of Winthrop and beyond. Maybe one of those occupants was your relative! This is a pedestrian tour so come equip to walk or ride on the sidewalks.

How to Ferment (almost) Everything (Drinks)!

This is a 3 week course that will go through how to ferment a variety of different fermented food and drinks from cultures all over the world, along with a few invented by the instructor, Samuel Pike, himself. Starting with week one you will learn the basics of fermenting and food safety, and how to make Kombucha. Every week after will build on and expand these foundational skills, while also introducing new ones. By the end you will be able to confidently make Kombucha, Water Kefir, Tepache, Kvass, "Wild Sodas", and more!
Home/Community Composting 101

Have you ever wanted to set up your own home compost operation, but were afraid it was too difficult to do? If so, then this class is for you. During this two part program, students will be introduced to the world of backyard composting while learning how easy it really is to do! Topics covered will include: an introduction to compost biology, review of various compost systems, a discussion of compost feedstocks and their challenges, how to setup and manage your compost pile/bin, how to troubleshoot compost problems and finally, what to do with the finished product. This class is designed to appeal to both novice and experienced composters alike. This class will have two virtual meetings and one outdoor in person meeting. October 4th and 18th (6:00p-8:00p) for the virtual classes and Wednesday, October 20th 6:00p-8:00p for the demonstration (in-person optional)
